One on One Mentoring

| ALIVE & Kicking Goals! | Together We Ride | LifeCycle Youth Connect | On Country Camps & Activities |

Our one-on-one mentoring is for Indigenous youth aged 10+ based in Broome, Derby and Halls Creek.

Conversations with young people can be confronting and embarrassing, especially when talking about suicide and mental health which carry different beliefs creating stigma. In the Kimberley, we need to acknowledge disadvantage, trauma, family domestic violence, neglect, and disconnection to family, culture and community which can be causes of youth disengagement. Additionally, the “shame factor” embedded in Kimberley youth makes seeking help and engaging in ongoing support challenging.

Our Family Outreach Service Peer Mentors, who are also strong role models in the community, aim to break the stigma associated with mental health, and the barriers of the shame factor, by building strong relationships with young people and creating a safety net of support. This is made possible with a holistic approach, which includes the support of their families, connection to culture, and education and awareness of social and emotional well-being, promoting a strong and healthy lifestyle.
