A logo competition with a prize of $1,000 was recently held across Broome, Bidyadanga and Derby. Women and girls from throughout these communities were invited to submit artwork and design ideas.
We were thrilled to receive entries from women and girls of all ages. Feedback on the entries was sought from representatives of Anglicare WA and our Alliance Partners, and the final judging was undertaken by Family Outreach Services staff and the Bibimbiya Jan-Ga Buru team.
We are delighted to announce that the winning entry came from Caitlyn Bale, a Year 7 student from Broome Senior High School. Caitlyn, born and bred in Broome, talked about family, community, and connection as her inspiration. It was a unanimous decision to work with Caitlyn on producing the final artwork as she reflected the values of Bibimbiya Jan-Ga Buru to offer a safe and respectful space for all women and children. Congratulations Caitlyn!
Lucy Dann, our Cultural Coordinator, speaks of Bibimbiya Jan-Ga Buru as a women and children’s healing place that reaches across Country — from the coast, across the waterways, to the desert (Broome, Derby and Bidyadanga). The logo colours chosen for the arches represent this. The arches also evoke shelter and safety, and the placement of the text above the arches reinforces the strength of Bibimbiya Jan-ga Buru as a safe place. The outlines of the women and child represent family and are inclusive to all.
We look forward to sharing the new logo across our branding and staff uniforms.
