Family Outreach Service is excited to announce that Broome’s new Family Domestic Violence Hub will be known as Bibimbiya Jan-ga Buru – Women and Children’s Healing Place. This Yawuru language name was chosen in consultation with Nyamba Buru Yawuru and reflects our vision to provide a safe, welcoming, and respectful space for all women.
Welcome to Lucy Dann and Anna Durant who have been appointed to two key roles in the Bibimbiya Jan-ga Buru team.
Lucy Dann has taken up the role of Cultural Coordinator. Lucy is a Bardi Jawi woman who has family ties to Broome and the Dampier Peninsula. She is well-known for her work in social services and has worked for MOSAC with the Change Em ways program. Lucy’s knowledge will ensure that cultural safety and protocols are embedded in the advocacy and service delivery of the Hub.
Anna Durant takes on the position of Senior Advocate. Anna is a long-term resident who has raised her three children in Broome. She comes with extensive counselling experience in the fields of alcohol and drug addiction. In her most recent role at Cyrenian House Milliya Rumurra Outreach Service, Anna supported clients and families from the Dampier Peninsula and Bidyadanga.
Family Outreach Service continues to work closely with Anglicare WA and our Alliance Partners as we commence services for the women of Broome, Derby and Bidyadanga.
The Department of Communities is dedicated to sourcing a central home for Bibimbiya Jan-ga Buru where women will be able to access FDV advocacy, counselling, legal assistance, financial advice, and an on-site creche.
