Our workshops promote a Peer Education Model. This model provides 1 on 1 mentoring or group workshops, with the main goal to break down the shame factor and the stigma around depression and suicide. |

The Life Promotion Program is based around an educational DVD, developed by local indigenous women, who are now known as the Women’s Reference Group. 4 main topics of the Life Promotion Program:

The alcohol and drug awareness workshops involves discussions, brainstorms and activities which targets conversations like; how to reduce risks when drinking, how can we help a friend struggling with these issues and negatives factors of alcohol, drugs and tobacco use. AKG has 3 different workshops on Alcohol & other drugs (AOD):

The Men’s Suicide Prevention DVD workshop has 3 main speakers featured in the film, who talk about their experiences with depression, suicide, help seeking and how they dealt with it. These tough topics are broken down with lighthearted scenes to keep it balanced. Some of the discussions are:

As Peer Educators we develop workshops associated with the cycle of grief that is experienced in the Kimberley region. Living Deadly Workshop – Relationships – 8 years + Activities – The relationship tree (discussion based on a tree), we will slowly assemble a tree adding parts as the discussion progresses. Branches – different types of relationships, Leaves – what you see when people are happy in their relationships, Roots – good things for a strong and lasting relationship, Bugs – bad things that eat away at relationships, Water/fertiliser – things we can do to upbuild and maintain healthy relationships. |
